Part 1 of The Adarna Bird/Ibong Adarna English Translation

Part 1

Don Fernando along with his wife, Queen Valeriana ruled the kingdom of Berbanya. They have 3 sons. Don Pedro, the eldest, Don Diego, the middle child and Don Juan, the youngest and the favorite of their father.

One night, Don Fernando had a terrible dream about two men conspiring against his favorite son. The dream got him so scared and alarmed that he could not rest. He later ends up being sick.

The Queen and her children called many doctors but no one could cure the King. Suddenly, an old man appeared out of nowhere, telling them that the only way to cure the King is to capture the Adarna bird and let him listen to its songs.

Now knowing the cure, Don Fernando got his son, Don Pedro to journey to Mount Tabor and capture the bird.

Don Pedro, set out to find the bird. After months of travelling through dense forests, thickets and mountains, his horse died.

He was devastated, how was he going to travel long distances without a horse? After a while, he finally decided that he will go find the bird if it means that it will save his father.

While on his long journey, he met an old man, asking for a loaf of bread. Don Pedro, having only a few pieces of bread, said no and went his way.

Again, he saw another old man, trying to cross the river but alas the man was too weak to cross it. The prince observed the river and saw that it was hard to cross with a strong current. He said no to the man and crossed the river by himself.

After his extremely long journey, he decided to rest, just for a while. While looking for a place to rest, he spotted a tree with diamond leaves.

The eldest son suspected that the tree is where the bird stays after its flight, so he waited. A few hours later and Don Pedro saw that his theory was correct. The Adarna bird was there in all it's glory.

He then tried capturing the bird but when it opened it's mouth, he beacame an unsuspecting victim to the hypnotizing songs of the majestic bird. Slowly, song by song, Don Pedro started falling asleep, until he dropped down to the ground still sleeping.

After seven songs, the bird pooped and Don Pedro was very unfortunate, the bird poop fell on him and he turned to stone...
